Calling Hitchcock Fans ...

Hi, Nikki here. For my Lost Coast Designs design team post today, I am showing a little love to the great man himself, Alfred Hitchcock :
This is a 4" x 4" card, featuring two stamps, Fourth Dimension from Lost Coast Designs and Alfred Hitchcock Standing from Carmen's Veranda.

I love the old Hitchcock movies, and some of his quotes are great, like this one :

"Drama is life with the dull bits cut out"

I colored my background with distress inks, stamped the Fourth Dimension over it in black, then colored a random selection with a white gel pen. I die cut a black film strip, added some detailing, distressed it and backed the photo strip holes with co-ordinating cardstock. Hitchcock is stamped in black and colored with inktense pencils. I added a layer of transparency over him and wrote the quote by hand :)

Hello Friends!
Leigh here and it's my turn to bring you some DT inspiration
and I've got lots to share!  First up, in case you missed seeing our fabulous news, we have a new Event and Challenge blog called Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where the stamps of Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!  Pop on over and check us out, become a follower and

For the launch I created this altered Game Art Trinket Box featuring Lost Coast Designs Manga Goth with Top Hat stamp that looks just like my Ever After High Madelaine Hatter doll!  I'm mad for all things Alice in Wonderland themed so that doll and that stamp were a MUST for me!  The "cupcake" lid handle is one of the cute little goodies that came with the doll.  Stop by my BLOG for more info on this project.

My 2nd share for today are the 2 ATCs I made for our May Challenge!  I'd also like to take this opportunity to remind you that our challenges will now be hosted over on our new blog too starting with the June challenge on June 1st!

I used the same two stamps on these ATCs but used the Bubbles stamp differently to achieve different effects.  I used Lost Coast Designs Seahorse and large Bubbles background stamps on these.  For more info you can see my post on my blog HERE!

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope to see you all playing with us over at
Lost Coast Portal to Creativity!

A postcard

Hello everybody,

Corrie here, today I have a postcard to share with you. It was great fun to make:

I used model paste and a stencil on a white postcard. When it was dry I sprayed it with Lindys Stamp Gang Flat Fabios in pink and orange. I also went around the edge with black ink, then thought it was to dark en rubbed it with white chalk ink. I then sprinkled silver embossing powder on that and heat embossed it. I randomly stamped the background and then stamped the lady and the butterflies and coloured them with Copic Markers, cut them out and went around the cut edge with a black marker. This was it looks like your cutting was perfect. I adhered everything to the card and that was that.

I used the following stamps:

Thank you for stopping by today !

Hope I have given you some inspiration !

Gibson girls

Hi Lost Coast lovers, Yvonne here with a new blogpost. This time I made an art journal page with a background of shaving foam and ecoline drops. That gives lots of fun and my room smells very nice now ;-) !
I cut some holes in the background and then I stamped the Gibson girls and the Violette flower on another piece of paper. I colored the backgrounds of the girls with Derwent colorsoft pencils and glued them at the backside. With black and white posca's I draw the little "lace arcs".
And at the end I used glossy accents to let the girls go shine !

The stamps I used :

Going Postal...

Hello!
It's me Tera here again with another fun and easy tutorial for you using the AMAZING  LCD stamps!!

Today I want to share this fun Buddha postcard.

Supplies:
LCD Stamps- Buddha from Asian set (HERE) and Agregate background (HERE
Paint in yellow, green, turquoise (mine are all the new Dylusions paints)
Tim Holtz sponge dabbers (or painting method of choice.. these are just fast and easy to slap paint down)
Black Paper for the background dry embossed with the Tim Holtz rays embossing folder (you could probably get a similar effect with the rays stencil if you don't have an embossing machine)
Tim Holtz or other rub-ons (optional for quote in postcard)
Scissors and Glue of choice
Black Pan pastel (for optional shading)

Start by dry painting (dry brushing) your embossed background with your green and turquoises paints letting some black show through (set aside to dry). Next paint a piece of cardstock yellow to stamp your Buddha on (or color with yellow Highlighters?).
Now that both are dry stamp the Agregate background on your embossed cardstock, and stamp your Buddha on the yellow (you can also add your rub-ons on your cardstock at this time if you plan to use some).  Cut your Buddha out leaving a tiny boarder to help him "pop" off the page.
Glue everything together and you have a finished piece!!

(Use good glue if using as a postcard. I used Glossy Accents)

You can add this to a greeting card backing or just mail as is :D

Goddess of the stars

Hi everyone! It's my second post here and I am excited to share with you what I made for this month's challenge, ATC's!
goddess of the stars

For this ATC I used the stamp 'profile with stars'. It is one of my favorites of the Art Nouveau range at LCD. It was a pretty challenging one to make and when I started I did not know it would turn out like this. Am very pleased with the end result though!
This is how I made it:
The background is made with distress stains aqua lagoon  and spun sugar on a light green paper base. I stamped the circle of the stamp with versamark on the background and embossed with stampin' up stardust embossing powder to give it that starry night effect. Another back ground made with distress stains wild honey, fired brick and vintage photo on green paper. Stamped 'profile with stars' on it with Staz-on rustic brown. Used a versa-marker on some elements I wanted to emboss with Top Boss Honey Gold. Then accentuated with a copic too tone marker in brown. The inner circle I removed with a tiny 3D Card scissors. To finish it off I added a bit of black soot rub on pearl at the edges of the ATC.

A Close up of the textures on the ATC.

Hope this inspired you to play along with our challenge this month.

Thanks for stopping by!

Namaste.

Older and wiser ...

Nikki here with a Design Team make. The new challenge at Lost Coast Designs, #12 is to make an Artist Trading Card. I don't know if anyone has noticed that I quite like making ATC's ..... LOL.

Here is my DT make and an extra little something else ...

This ATC features the very wise and formal owl from Misc Anthropomorphs and also 'Wisdom' is lightly stamped in the background from dictionary words :
The background was made with distress paint and distress stains. The paint applied first and when dry it acts as a resist for the stain. I spritzed the ATC with water once I had added the stain and moved the card around so that the colors ran and gelled together a little more. I really like this effect.

The owl was stamped in dark brown into onto my ATC, then onto white gloss card stock in brown archival, which I embossed with clear powder and colored him with distress inks and stains. When I had fussy cut him and was adding him to the ATC I glued him down slightly to the right side so there is a shadow behind him. I also added a little white gel pen to pick up some of the details.

A close up of my owl :

For the back of my atc I did a similar technique to the front of the ATC, but I used a more absorbant paper - wow look at the different in the colors and how they merge together. I stamped the owl once and then added my ATC label. Lost Coast Designs have some really wonderful ATC sized images.
Now here is something extra. I make so many ATC's that my binders are bulging at the seams, so I decided to turn some of them into cards.

Here is the card I made, for a 50th Birthday for a friend :

I have done the same background technique, but then I used the Journalling tool / stencil to add the waves. I spritzed it all with water and removed some of the ink with paper towel, the added my journaling. Quite often we don't like our own handwriting - have you found that ? So I decided to go against that instinct and write :)

Hope you found some inspiration here, and maybe feel inclined to join our challenge.

Hello friends! I get asked often about making cards for guys. I naturally tend to create with feminine colors and organic lines and textures but sometimes you need to make a card outside of your normal style (usually when a male relative has a birthday.) I think we don't often make cards for our men because (and this is going to sound really sexist so I apologize in advance) because we don't think they will appreciate them while our girlfriends will gush over the glitter, hand stitching and our awesome copic coloring skills...OK I imagine my girlfriends opening my cards and fainting with pleasure over the joy of receiving one of my handmade creations, but I might be delusional. Anyway, today I'm going to show you how to make this card. Dog and Party Hat stamps from Lost Coast Designs.
lcd_bowwow_blog
How to make a card for a man:
  1. Colors, stick with blue, green, red, brown and black, if you are feeling sassy you can add orange to the mix!
  2. Texture, look for diamond plate or gear/cog embossing folders, if you don't have any you can run the card over a few times with your car.
  3. Any Tim Holtz embellishment is appropriate for a man card. I know it can be hard to part with a precious TH embellie but you can probably steal back the embellishment later after he forgets about the card.
  4. Add a clearly defined sentiment in case he does not realize what the card is for.
  5. OK, I am totally joking with you, men appreciate the cards just as much as the ladies, they are just unlikely to gush over them:) Tip for men, if there are any still reading, if a lady gives you a handmade card gush already! OK before I dig myself into more of a hole you can see how I made this card in today's video:

All joking aside making cards for guys is as simple as shifting your color palette and going with texture over embellishments:) And I didn't mean to be harsh on the guys, I have just heard from so many of my stamping girlfriends say that their guys did not SEEM to really appreciate their handmade cards. But I don't really appreciate the finesse of a football player kicking a touchdown thingie and that is OK as long as we appreciate that it makes the other person happy and we support it. That's my opinion:) Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!
